I’ve known Jesse since she was just a little girl, her mom is my best friend. When I found out she got engaged I was so happy for her. As a family member I didn’t want to stick my noise where it didn’t belong and it was really hard for me to wait for her to come ask me for help BUT when she did we made magic happen.

I loved how she knew what she wanted and the wedding was definitely a reflection of who she is and who they are as a couple. The Yellowhead Brewery was the perfect place that brought all the special people in their lives together and a great place to party. They decided to do a later ceremony and have the time to take family and bridal pictures beforehand. Chris had to be convenient to do a first look but the picture says it all when he sees his bride for the first time.

The evening was wonderful with butler style appetizer and champagne to celebrate, great music by the band and a late lunch that consist of cheesy yummy serve it yourself poutine . We had rapping and singing as speeches, a lot of laughs and a few tears. I couldn’t believe that the bride and groom were truly the last people I put into a cab. Sitting on the steps with them at the end of the night listening to how much fun they had really warmed my heart.

And the personal joke of the evening “ I love you babe”

You ever get the feeling that some people are just meant to be together? That’s how I felt the first time I meant Tim and Brigitte. Their smiles where never-ending, their laugh contagious and their glances infectious. You know how they say laughter is the best medicine – I would be rich if I could bottle up Tim’s sense of humor. I never left a meeting without my belly hurting from laughing so much.

The night before the wedding I even got a call from Tim, telling me he couldn’t go through with it. For barely a second I believed him and then called him out on it. Immediately he started to laugh and tell me how he wanted to surprise his Bride with a dance.  “Of course” I said and we figured out a good time to fit it in the timeline and I couldn’t wait to see what he had come up with.

The venue was spectacular and the weather beautiful. The natural light from all the windows and the scenery of the golf course really made the place warm and welcoming and didn’t need much décor. I loved the spring colors that Brigitte picked, the damask pattern on the linens and DIY flower arrangements. Ever wonder what a Wedding Planner’s nightmare would be? I didn’t know what to say when Candace came in with that look on her face and said the cake fell on the way to the venue. I can do a lot of things but one of them is not cake décor but I did pay attention. The fast work and pure talent of Cakes by Candace had the cake looking like nothing had happened and no one would ever notice. The evening went off without a hitch and all the guest had a great time dancing the night away with Martin Kerr and his Band.

The Secret to a Stress Free Wedding Day

Staying organized is a sure key to a successful wedding day and it’s important to create yourself a detailed timeline for the day of. Why? This allows everyone involved from wedding party to vendors to be on the same page. Of course none of it is written in stone and things may take a little longer but it gives everyone an understanding of how the day is going to go. This is also a great avenue to open communication with your vendors and see what amount of time they need as well. You don’t want to be disappointed when you walk into your reception and your DJ is still setting up because someone thought it was a good idea for them to show up ½ hour before cocktail when it takes them at least 1 hour to set.

Your vendors are the expert of their own art and are a great source of information. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You should be starting to put your timeline together about 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding day and shared with everyone involved by rehearsal time.

Tip #1: First things first – Getting ready is probably going to be the first thing on your timeline. Depending on how many bridesmaids you have will depend on how long it’s going to take and how early you are going to get up that day. When the hair stylist arrives, have them start with your bridesmaids. This way when your photographer arrives they will be able to catch those last minute “getting ready” shots and you the bride will look your freshest.When should you photographer arrive? This depends on your contract, if you have a full day coverage your photographer will most likely arrive within the hour of you getting ready so they can catch some of those moment. But let’s be honest, there are only so many photo opportunities here and with your photographer on the clock let’s not have them sitting around.

Tip #2 – If you are travelling anywhere to get your hair or makeup done make sure to allow double the time it would normally take. It’s always better to have too much time than not enough.

Tip #3 – It’s going to be a long day and it might start very early. During the prep time is a good time to have snacks. A pre- timeline event can be organizing who is bring what such as coffee, snacks and desserts. Don’t forget about the boys- they maybe sleeping in but they still need to eat.

Have you discussed with your photographer a “First Look”. I must say that this is one of my favorite shots next to the ring shot. If you need some convincing google “First looks”. The moment is priceless and it’s a moment only for the couple. It’s a moment that is intimate, special and probably the only time you will have to be with one another ALONE till the end of the night. Defiantly have a breakdown of picture moments you want and your photographer will be able to tell you how long each should take. Remember the tip of travel.

Your reception timeline is where a lot of details are going to take place. I like to give the timeline to all the vendors as well. Even though the DJ knows your first dance I still enter it on the timeline. Don’t forget to include when your vendors are arriving at the ceremony or reception. This will outline your expectations of them or any concerns that can come up and a discussion can be had.

I tell my couple do what you feel best doing. I don’t believe in a “traditional” timeline. If you would like to do your first dance upon coming into the reception before dinner then do it. If you want to do speeches between courses than do it. Just remember that the timeline will give everyone heads up and everyone will be on the same page.

Tip #4 – Write down the evenings events than enter them into your timeline.

Tip #5 – Some other things I include on my timeline.
– Who is involved in the task
– Phone numbers or contacts
– Names

The last thing you want to be doing on your day is fiddling around on your phone trying to figure out who’s who and their phone number. Don’t want to have to deal with any of this, then think about working with Lighthouse Weddings where we will bring you to and through your special days. Happy planning.

I met this lady over the summer and she did a fabulous job capturing such a unique wedding. The best part was I had the pleasure of getting to know her. A well-travelled and diverse in many cultures, she is easy going, to the point and a ball of fun. I could sit and listen to her stories all night long. You should ask her the 3 languages she can speak. Kristina was born in Germany and her love of travel has taken her all over the world. Through her travels, she found her passion for photography. She’s been to places such as Singapore, France and Switzerland. After a couple months through Australia, she decided to come visit our beautiful country Canada. Who could pass up coming to visit Canada? And here is where she has made her home. She found her true love, decided to set up some roots and had a beautiful child.  Today, we get to experience and see a piece of this lovely lady with every picture that she shares. Not only is she a professional in her art, but is also always there to lend a hand and help with whatever comes up. She loves to share her experiences and teach her peers what she learned. Last year I got the pleasure of working with Joanne Hobbs of Joanne Hobbs Photography on an amazing photo shoot. It was the first time my mother and I put our creative minds together.  We wanted the concept to be rustic with an Italian feel. Hence all the bottles of wine. The night before and day of was spent preparing the food that was inspired by all my findings on Pinterest. There was lots of cheese, bread, fruit and even seafood.

I have to admit that the best part about the shoot was getting to eat all this delicious food.

Here we were hanging out in someone’s backyard and there IT was, a unique fire pit speaking to me. I knew I had to use it as a prop somehow. I had brought tones of flowers with me, lots of candles and all I could think about was snuggling up with my loved one, glass of wine in hand and a beautiful fire keeping us warm.

The models where great, a true couple in love. I think we may have freaked him out a little, seeing his girlfriend in a wedding dress and the whole wedding vibe might have made him a little nervous, but after a few kisses and some laughs they both did great.

I had the pleasure of once again working with Christine from Stagecoach Design and Event Rentals.

I love creating this concept with my mom. We had an idea of how and what we wanted but we didn’t really have a plan. I love creating and making things happen. This is something that I was very proud of and I’m not so happy to be able to share it with you. Cheers and happy planning.
